Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a kennel?

No. Escrick Dog Retreat is a licensed home boarding service based in Escrick, near York. Unlike traditional dog kennels, your dog stays in our family home and becomes part of our daily routine, enjoying a calm and comfortable environment.

What is the difference between home boarding and kennels?

Traditional boarding kennels typically accommodate multiple dogs in individual kennel spaces. Home boarding offers a more personal experience, with dogs living in a home environment alongside their carers. At Escrick Dog Retreat, we keep guest numbers low to ensure every dog receives plenty of attention and care.

Are you licensed?

Yes. Escrick Dog Retreat is fully licensed by North Yorkshire Council.

Licence Number: ANBRD-187416-C

How much does dog boarding cost?

Our standard rate is £42 per night.

Do you accept puppies?

Unfortunately we cannot accept dogs under 12 months old. As they require significantly more supervision, training consistency and attention, we are currently unable to offer this in our family environment.

Will my dog be walked?

Yes. Dogs receive regular walks appropriate to their age, breed and energy levels. We will discuss your dog's usual exercise routine during the meet and greet process.

Can my dog sleep where they normally sleep at home?

Absolutely. We aim to maintain your dog's usual routine wherever possible. Whether they sleep in a crate, dog bed or another designated area, we'll discuss their preferences with you before their stay.

What happens if my dog becomes unwell?

Your dog's welfare is our priority. If they become unwell during their stay, we will contact you immediately and seek veterinary advice where necessary. We recommend all owners provide details of their usual veterinary practice and an emergency contact before boarding.

Do you provide updates while we're away?

Yes! We know how much owners miss their dogs, so we're happy to provide regular updates and photographs during their stay to give you peace of mind.

Can I visit before booking?

Of course. All new clients are required to attend a meet and greet before confirming a booking. This gives us the opportunity to get to know your dog, discuss their needs and ensure we're the right fit for one another.

Do you board un-neutered dogs?

This is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Please let us know if your dog is entire (not neutered) when making an enquiry so we can discuss suitability and any existing bookings.

Can you accommodate dogs in season?

Unfortunately, we are generally unable to accommodate dogs that are in season. If a dog comes into season during their stay, we may need to make alternative arrangements for the safety and wellbeing of all dogs in our care.

Do you offer wedding chaperone services?

Yes. We offer a wedding chaperone service exclusively for our existing home boarding clients. We can help your dog be part of your special day before returning them safely home or back to their boarding accommodation.

Do you provide day care only?

No, unfortunately we only provide day care when a dog is boarding overnight and requires an earlier check-in or late check-out.
